Shuto 10’s 2017

The 2017 Shuto 10’s started off at 7:30 for the Tokyo Gaijin as the boys ended their hands in helping set up the tournament tents and fields.

It was already stinking hot by 8am and only got hotter as the day went on.

Gaijin South took the field in there first match only to go down 0 – 10. The score was the same for the Gaijin North against Mandara losing 0 – 15 in their first game. With many mixed levels an players trying new positions both teams were not 100% in sync. After both teams first games and a solid debrief the gaijin south were ready to kick off their second game and came out on top 15 – 0. The Gaijin north also came out with a 15 – 0 win over the Kawa Fighters. Things were starting to gel for both squads and it was time to ramp up.

As the day rolled on both teams kept securing wins and both secured positions in the quarter finals. The Gaijin south were up first against Koryo. It was a tough match and included some of the biggest hits of the tournament but the Gaijin South eventually going down 15 – 5 and knocked out of the tournament.

The Gaijin North took on No Side Club in their second round coming out on top 14 – 0 next up was Nerima club who the north dismissed 10 – 0 to secure their place in the semi finals.

The semi final was against Ashitaka. It was a tough and fast game but the North eventually claimed victory 21 – 0.

There was a brief break before the final and the gaijin north would be taking on the undefeated Komaba WMM

This was the toughest game of the day both teams exhausted from the hot weather an long day of games.
Both teams were ready to give 100% and leave it all out on the field.

The gameplay was fast as both teams had size and speed but Komaba opened the scoring and converted for an early lead. As the game rolled on the Gaijin crossed over only to be held up with a few minutes to go. After a huge scrum Komaba were penalized and a quick tap put the North under the posts at full time with a conversion left to tie up the game and go to sudden death.

The conversion was successful and the finals would move in to overtime.

Both teams were blowing hard as the overtime commenced. Five solid minutes of huge tackles and line breaks.
The Gaijin eventually conceded a try losing the epic final to Komaba.
