Despite a strong win over the Gentle Giants (40 v 12) yesterday the Gaijin failed to peg back the lead of All Jin Jan and missed out on their chance for a third straight Shuto League title. All Jin Jan finished the Autumn season with a superior bonus points tally, pipping the Gaijin by just one point (See the table below).

The loss against Fuji Club in the last minute of play was an expensive loss, with the team failing to overcome the loss of both captain Murray Clarke & vice captain Matt Downer along with leading players Toby Gallagher and Paulo de Beriozzabal. But there were other instances where the team let bonus points slip away by not finishing off teams. Beating Baku & Clover only 15 v 0 (3 tries) was a disappointing result when the team should have been able to put more points on the board. The Gaijin frittered away opportunity after opportunity in the first half and went to the break at 0 v 0.

Also against All Jin Jan the Gaijin had a comfortable lead at 21 v 0 and could have secured a bonus point by keeping them to zero but they took the foot off the accelerator and let All Jin Jan in for a try in th edying minutes.

One positive is that we did beat the eventual Champions of the Shuto League in All JIn Jan quite convincingly at 21 v 7. Unfortunately they  picked up their performances as the season progressed and took bonus points from every other game while the Gaijin fell into some inconsistency.

Bring on the Shuto League 2010! We want our title back!
