With the Tokyo Gaijin RFC going through a baby boom with at least 7 babies due this year it was only natural that one would be born on a Rugby day to leave the under-manned Tokyo Gaijin RFC further short of players. Proud new father Mosese Rarasea was contemplating rugby or family, early on this particular Sunday morning, when the decision was made for him by his new addition and he had to race his wife to hospital. The Gaijin would not be granting Rarasea a celebratory gift on this day when they were convincingly beaten by the Chiba Barbarians.
A 7:00 o'clock meeting time on a cold, windy morning was not conducive to getting the Tokyo Gaijin RFC players into rugby mode. It was their responsibility to set up the field for a 10:00 am kickoff against All JIn Jan RFC. By the time 10:00am rolled in the team was keen to get out on the field and get warm. Thanks to scrum power and the dynamic Fijian duo of Mosese Rarasea and Sovita Tai they were able to come away with a 24 v 5 victory.
The Tokyo Gaijin RFC played their first game of 2014 on a freezing Sunday afternoon in Kawagoe, Saitama. Despite the strong gale which reduced the temperature markedly and a rather rusty performance, the team was able to start the year with a narrow 35 v 30 win.
