Ideal spring conditions set the backdrop for the annual friendly fixture between Chiba Barbarians RFC and Tokyo Gaijin RFC on March 13th when the two teams met at Kanamachi’s Niijuku Mirai Park. Unfortunately despite our strong start to the game the Gaijin ascendency was all to brief – and therefore so is this match report!
A fine bright morning at the pristine artificial pitch of Hino Motors set the scene for the second round of the 2016 Cup Winners’ Cup on February 28th. But if the sun was in the sky, revenge was in the air as a focused Gaijin outfit cleared up any confusion over the Shuto League’s top team following the two clubs’ previous meeting in October’s scrappy draw.
Despite fears of cancellation due to a weather warning, bright sunlight was the only element flooding Edogawa’s number 3 ground yesterday as Tokyo Gaijin romped away to a 60-12 victory against Chiba’s Akanehama. And yet, the score masked an uneven perfomance by the Gaijin with strengths consolidated, while problem areas remained unsolved.
