Around the Traps, Vol 4

  • Jo Iwasaki injured his shoulder in a friendly against Akanegahama. Jo had an operation the following Wednesday to get a bolt put in his shoulder joint and have the ligaments between the collarbone and shoulder bones sown back together. When visited in hospital he had a little piece of bone in a small bottle that the doctor had found floating in his shoulder from a previous injury. Jo vaguely remembers having a sore shoulder for a while when he first started playing for the Gaijin 7 years ago. It looks like Shino will be doing baby duties by herself for a while. Jo remains upbeat though, aiming to be back in action at the Sugadaira 10`s in July.
  • In the same game big Argentinian Mauro Sauco broke a rib, Gaz Dalrymple injured ankle ligaments and Toru Kanamori chipped a tooth. It was fascinating watching Toru dig the chipped off part from his mouth guard after the match.

  • It is rumored that Sean O`Donoghue will be back in action soon, after 6 months out with knee problems. He claims to have spent the last couple of months in the gym running and doing weights so the team is looking forward to seeing a fit O`Donoghue out on the field in the Tokyo Cup.
  • Andy Ballard has been doing a bit of modeling lately, just in case his career in Nuclear Engineering never takes off. Apparently Harlequin, a publisher of paperback romance novels, is looking for real-life cover models for a series of titles. To vote for Andy go to http://www.harlequin.co.jp/30th/contest.html. Tell your friends about it too as Andy promises to give a free copy of the book he covers to each person who votes for him. C`mon guys. I think you all need a little more romance in your lives!
  • Speaking of romance, Matt Downer, recently re-elected as Vice-Captain, has decided that training is not that important before a big game and jetted off to Taiwan for a weekend tryst. Rumors were flying earlier in the week that Matt had absconded to marry. Stay tuned!
  • There have been quite a few new additions to the Gaijin family over the past year. To add to the new babies list of Takeshi Nagashima (So & Aki), Tomoki Walker (Blake & Kyoko), Mana Harris (Joffa & Terumi), Carlos Joseph Lee Poulton (Rob & Jennifer), Suzu Iwasaki (Jo & Shino), and Uta (Hitoshi & Ritsuko) have been new additions Sara Kitajima (born 30 September, 2008 to Takayuki & Kana), Anna Patricia Hughes (born 16 December, 2008 to Erin & wife) and most recently Shivani Lucy Salter (born 7 February, 2008 to Dan & Dharati).
  • Another member of the club also found out 6 months ago that he had a 2-year-old son – young Sola! That makes for 10 new additions for the next generation of Gaijin.
  • Joe Fisher got married to Hiroko in late November 2008 in Hawaii. What odds on Joe to be the next to add to the list?
